MY ALBUM DESIGN PROCESS

I’m back talking about my favourite upsells; albums! This is Episode 3 of my Album Series on the Life & Lens Podcast and in this episode, I’m going to share my album design process from beginning to end.

When I first started selling albums, I had no idea how to design albums. I thought to myself, ‘hoowww do I do this??’ and I’m guessing many of you may have had the same thoughts if you are new to selling albums. I’m 4 years in my journey and I have found that by having a structured design process for albums means that I am consistent in the quality of my albums I deliver and have a streamlined workflow.

Join me as I take your through my design process and share tips on designing a beautiful album.

The Art of Selling Albums is launching 30th April. The online course covers how to sell and design albums in a step-by-step format so you can level up your client experience, make more profit and have more freedom in your business.

Key Take-Aways

  1. Design Your Couples Album: I use Smart Albums and I don’t wait until my client has selected their favourite images to start their album design. I will always include their favourites in the album design if they have had a chance to select them. I always select the cover art and colour-way for them and present it in Smart Albums for them to review

  2. One Design Revision: I allow one design revision only as part of my album workflow to keep the timeline moving

  3. Curate Your Images & Layout: When designing your album use 100-120 images from your highlights and maintain white space to allow the images to breath. Avoid crowding your images on each spread.

  4. You Are The Story-Teller: Design your album through the lens of a storyteller: break the wedding into chapters including getting ready, first look, ceremony, reception, dancefloor, exit.

  5. Communication is Key: be clear with your client about timelines and when they can expect their album to be delivered. Worried you’ll miss sending an update email? Set up a job in Studio Ninja or Asana, with automated reminders so you never miss a step.

  6. Don’t Skip Quality Checks; Always check over the album before sending it to the couple. Look for marks, printing flaws or any reason that your customer might not be happy and contact your printer asap. I would be devastated if a client received an album that I wasn’t personally happy with, so I always check my album by hand. It’s also a great opportunity to create content for socials, such as unboxing of an album or a reel of you packaging up an album for delivery to a client.

  7. Testimonials are Golden: Always ask for feedback and share it online via your website and socials.
